Common Questions
Do we have to go to court to separate?
No, and most families should not. A negotiated separation agreement can resolve property, support, and parenting comprehensively, faster and at far lower cost than litigation. Court remains available when negotiation fails or safety is at risk.
How is child support calculated in Ontario?
Base child support follows the Federal Child Support Guidelines tables, driven primarily by the paying parent's income and the number of children. Special expenses (childcare, health costs, certain activities) are shared in proportion to income. We make sure income is disclosed and calculated correctly.
Is a prenuptial agreement enforceable in Ontario?
Yes, marriage contracts are enforceable when properly made: full financial disclosure, independent legal advice for both parties, and no duress. Done correctly, they provide real certainty about property and support if the relationship ends.
